Setouchi Triennale 2019 Collaborative Project

The KDU Art Project on SEI is a collaborative project with the Setouchi Triennale 2019.
The artworks will be exhibited at the breakwaters and the currently unused privately owened traditional Japanese homes on Seijima Island.

Seijima Island is not acutually an island today.The narrow sea channel was willed to connect it to the mainland. The island is located in the proximity of Shamijima Island. You can drive to Seijima by car.

Striped sea


Artist : Reika Nakayama

“Stripe” means layers created over history.This artwork will revive the scenery of the seashore, which the people of the island were once fond of watching.The view became obstructed due to the construction of breakwaters.

Ancestral Palace

Artist : Hiroyuki Kawai

White lotus flowers are typically used for Bon lanterns in the Sei area.This installation of 1000 white lotus flowers as art,will take place at an old private home where you can trace the lives of the people living there, and it will create a quite time and space where the lives of past, present, and future come together.

Millennial Starry Sky

Artist : Mitsuo Toyasaki

The starry sky has existed for more than a thousand years, since people people first inhabited this area.We hope it will be there for another thousand years and beyond.This artist will install thousands of shells floating in the attic of old traditional house where no one lives anymore,and stardust will come out in the dark.

Silhouette of Islands and Images of Their People

Artist : chiba yun

Silhouttes of the five islands of Yoshima will be created with wire frame models. Lighting the models will cast shadows of the islands and depict the images of people whowere living in the Seto Inland Sea area.

Gate to Sky and Sea

Artist : Tetsurou Fujiyama

The flame of a player’s bench remains in the unused gateball field.Two plates added to the flame are visual gates and cut the landscape of the port and the sea.

Access

From Sakaide station

A Shuttle bus runs from the Sakaide station to the venue.

There is a shuttle bus from the parking area to the main site(Kitaura and Takeura)
